Detroit Up North: Port Austin

As summer tourist season winds down in "The Thumb" after Labor Day, Detroit Up North (DUN) steps in as an exciting pathway between Detroit and Huron County, aiming to connect trip attendees, entrepreneurs, musicians, artists and vendors, all within a weekend getaway. Entering its seventh year and taking place on September 14-16 in Port Austin, Mich., DUN is taking on new life as a connector between two unique regions of Michigan, beyond just vacationing.

Attendees will engage with Huron County locals and fellow Detroiters through both organized and informal trip programming. Detroit vendors and makers will pop-up in Port Austin staples like the local farmer’s market and restaurants. Previous trip programming includes a Farm to Farm Luncheon, participation in the Farmer’s Market, and highlighting many Detroit musicians, including Haute to Death, Tart Band, and Nothing Elegant.

Beginning with a group of about 40 travelers, Detroit Up North attendee numbers have grown into the hundreds in recent years. DUN-goers are responsible for their own lodging and transportation to join in on the trip, but options for collaborative and efficient travel can be found on our site.
